The Town Hall’s masterpiece is the Town Hall itself.
A village within the city, Saint-Gilles has always been home to a large number of architects and artists. Faced with its growing population, it was bound to build a town hall that reflected the civilising virtues of art, science and morality. It demonstrated its faith in progress through the pencil and brush of the finest artists of their time. Erected in 1904, this imposing Neo-Renaissance building is the crowning achievement of Saint-Gilles’ artistic life.
The deep bonds forged with these Saint-Gilloise artists have, throughout its 120-year history, helped to enrich the Town Hall’s collection: a plaster cast by Rodin, a panel by Jordaens, a painting by Paulus, and contemporary works from the ‘Parcours d’Artistes’ programme.... During Heritage Days 2025, the artistic work of a female artist will be highlighted and presented to the public at the Town Hall.
