The ‘Salon Royal’ is a secret, discreet and elegant place, intended for the foreign delegations of the time who came to catch the train at the Central Station!

The Central Station, which was to form the North-South link, was designed by Victor Horta as early as 1912. Work did not begin until 1937, following the war and the stock market crash, and was overseen by Maxime Brunfaut, who took over from V. Horta in 1947. Opened in 1952, this exceptional station – complex in design due to its triangular shape and the slope of the land – was intended to accommodate official visitors and the many commuters. At the end of the tour, you will have the chance to discover the ‘Salon Royal’, a place little known to the public where the world’s elite could rest before boarding the train. A private lift took them there.
