The Gare Maritime+

This former freight station has been turned by Neutelings Riedijk Architects into a city where it never rains. The impressive Art nouveau steel structure covering the site was renovated by Jan De Moffarts and the Bureau Bouwtechniek.  

The "Gare Maritime" is an energy neutral building : renewable energy is produced on site ; geothermal energy for the heat, solar panels for the electricity. No fossil energy is used for heating or climatisation. 

The outside layer of the building was optimised to minimize energy loss and take advantage of daylight. Energy requirements are further reduced by triple glazing. The building is equipped with state-of-the-art technical installations for ventilation, climatisation and lighting.
